Am I The Comedian?

A friend recently told me “You remind me of The Comedian, especially politically.” I hadn’t watched the movie Watchmen in a long time and I never read the comics, so I was kind of confused. What little I did remember was that he raped some lady and then died pretty early on in the film – so initially I didn’t really take it as a compliment.

So the question is ‘am I the comedian?’… I’m sorry to tell you folks, but the answer is no. I’ve come to this assumption primarily because I don’t like being referred to as any fictional character. I am a real living man that believes in an inherent order to the world provided to us by the almighty. And even though this order has been corrupted; I believe that we will reclaim victory against the armies of darkness to see the throne restored.

The difference between The Comedian and I is simple: his philosophy assumes that we will not be saved and mine assumes that we will. When you assume that ultimately we will not be saved from this insane world, then you are free to do what you please. You are free to delve into depravity and disregard your own moral values to maximize your own pleasure. It is the truest expression of individualism and enables us to abandon our love for the collective.

Despite the differences in our conclusions, I do however empathize with The Comedian’s philosophy and our analysis of the current world is quite similar. A reoccurring quote I kept finding from the character was “once you realize what a joke everything is, being the comedian is the only thing that makes sense.” I agree to the extent that being serious in a world of ridiculousness will make you constantly depressed and anxious. For decades our people have attempted to be nice, polite and serious – all while we are ignored and humiliated.

It is pointless to debate the political views of people that openly hate us and propose policies to eradicate our way of life. It is absurd to try and save those that understand the evil, but are too lazy to make any positive change. So all we can do is laugh and enjoy the ride: laugh at the evil, laugh at the lazy and laugh until this entire system collapses under ridicule. And consider it never does, at least we had a laughably good time.
