Soooo, I’m pretty sure that Rishi Sunak is attempting to lose the next British election. This is based on 3 major fails that appear as self – sabotage.
The first is that he announced the election in the worst possible way. He appeared in the pouring rain without any notice to call for the election. The aesthetics of Sunak in the pouring rain is very depressing and looks like a scene from a cheap movie.
He also used this announcement to present the Covid pandemic and the Ukraine War as accomplishments of his government, finishing this statement by asking the audience “who do you trust?” These two events have been complete tragedies for the British people, so to present them as successes then asking an open ended question about trust is political suicide.
Sunak also didn’t tell any of his party that he was making this announcement. Usually, elected officials promote positive and well liked policies just before an election and then never follow through with it during their period of government. However, this time they haven’t even bothered to lie to the citizens.
The second observation is that he has announced compulsory national service for citizens if they win the next election. This was one of his first new policy announcements and therefore takes priority over other issues. “You will be conscripted to die for Israel and Ukraine” is not a winning platform. Conscription is one of the most disliked policies to exist and probably the quickest ways to lose favor.
Other nations such as Denmark have expanded their national service programs recently, but no one has been foolish enough to use it as an election promise. It’s become clear to most that Israel and America are leading us into another global war and that’s why national service programs are being adopted or expanded on. However, everyone is so sick of these pointless wars that it’s really the worst time to promote these policies.
The third observation is Rishi Sunak leaving the D-Day commemorations early. He abandoned the event to return to Britain for a television interview. Many world leaders were at the commemoration, so there’s an obvious scheduled time to leave with the others. Our culture and people are so intrinsically tied to the story of World War II that it’s a major scandal to leave this event. Disrespecting our World War II veterans is a sure bet to decrease support, and only a move I’ve used to show people that I’ve got nothing to lose. The difference is Sunak does have something to lose – the next British election.
Now there are other possibilities to why his campaign appears sabotaged. It could be that he is just a completely incompetent fool and fully disconnected from the average person. The other reason is that he has advisors that are leading a mutiny against him.
Rishi Sunak and his wife are extremely wealthy from various business ventures. Their primary wealth comes from her inheritance of the Indian IT company Infosys. So if he loses the election, he will have no trouble finding a job. His father in law is now 77 years old and may be looking to handover the reigns of his billion dollar empire. This would provide Sunak and his wife a much larger net worth to manage and a reason to jump ship on the political game.
The other reason to leave is that the financial and political system is getting worse by the day. Sunak may realize that it’s best for himself and the Conservative Party to jump ship before it’s too late. They can then blame all the worsening problems on The Labour Party and retake power in future. The Labour Party’s leader Keir Starmer is an establishment figure regardless, so there won’t be any significant danger to the powers that be.
There are many other minor things that Rishi Sunak has done to deter public support for his party. I would have a hard time writing these actions in a fictional novel because ‘the prime minister abandoned a veteran’s ceremony during his election campaign’ just sounds so ridiculous that no one would believe it.
